ALCATRAZ

until 1988, i think its right to say the only noted alumni from NESCOT was David Bellamy * (needs citation)

checking now, the only noted alumni from there are Joe wicks the body coach and Ricky, one of the keepers at the big cat sanctuary who helped us with the BIG cats project

they fail to mention me (of course) and my more esteemed college-mates: fashion-photographer-turned-director, 'sean ellis' ...i mean, this one: 'Sean ellis', photographer to the royals, 'Chris Floyd' and THE 'Barry j Holmes'

i'm sure there are other escapees to be celebrated too!?

i am further amused to see i am still a noted alumni of Chailey (secondary) school along with 'piers (Pughe) Morgan' who was, and remains, a few years older than me.

it begun in africccccca NESCOT

when i finished my A level's and needed somewhere to go, my dad, who ran the canteen at nescot, suggested he might be able to swing me a place on the BTEC photography course there.
there weren't as many places to study photography then as there are now
and
i had nothing better to do, with a passing interest in taking photographs.

so i enrolled.
i lived with my grandad in Worcester Park mon-friday and went home on the weekends
i worked in Sainsbury's four nights a week
i was quite unhappy
and dropped out after the first year.
along with chris (Floyd) who started working as a freelance photographer
and Sean Ellis, who went back to Brighton (to assist?)

after a year as a butler to a viscount back in my home village, I realised I should probably go back and finish what I started
returning to do the second year, with Barry j Holmes
I stayed with my lovely uncle and aunt and my cousins that time and had a much happier year
still worked nights in Sainsbury's BUT I had a triumph dolomite to drive around so I was much more mobile.

i still speak to Chris fairly often, and Barry, who lives in LA now

our lecturer neil (Onslow) helped me into PCL after NESCOT and we've stayed in touch a bit

i remember the NESCOT years quite fondly now, at the time, not so much
